NEWSFLASH December 23, 2008

Just arrived back home from our D-tour through Germany. In short, this tour has been one of the best in various aspects. It was organized nearly perfectly by our German agency Klassenfahrt-Bookings, the response and attendance was beyond expectations, and maybe most important of all, we had a superb time together on stage and beyond ;-) A big thanks to all the local promotors and everybody who visited our shows! Cheerz! See you back in 2009!!!

Speaking of 2009, a lot of exiting stuff is on the agenda. Arjen is going to join the Toasters on their winter US tour in January and February. In the meantime, most of the RSJF members and Dr. Ring Ding will be preparing a new menu for the next round of Kingston Kitchen [KK809] shows planned for March and April. Keep yourself posted for exact dates and locations.

NEWSFLASH September 19, 2008

Finally, its here. mOTiv loCo on the good old vinyl (180 grams orange!). We already concluded from the test pressings that the vinyl sounds a lot warmer and dynamic than the CD version. Probably due to the natural compression of the lacquer cutting and the vinyl itself. Besides a nice sound carrier, the release of this album on vinyl also enables us to fully expose the excellent artwork made by our home designer Gemma Plum.

The record is released by Submachine Records (Cat. No. SUB-V01) and will be distributed by Sonic Rendezvous. Please ask your local record shop or place your order at Sonic.nl.

Of course the record will also be available at our live shows. Looking forward to meet up there. Check the show section for dates in your neighborhood....

Some retrospective... The September gigs were cool. Very good to be back in Germany to meet old and new friends. Praha was great! If you are there, you must go visit the Cross Club - it's a LoCo toKo. Nice sleeping and jamming in Sir Toby's. Hello to the guys from The Display Team! Check them out, they are rocking hard! Thanks to Skabina of Club Gromka (Ljublijana) for her hospitality. Also thanks to The Tiptons for the nice evening and the detoxicating falafal lunch! Furtermore, it was also a great pleasure to meet and play with our friends from PASO in Budapest. Finally, a big up to the people from Lowics Poland and the ADAC! Pictures will be posted asap. Check YouTube for some obscure video stuff.

The sad downside of the story, however, is that we lost our touring van "Turbo" on the way back from Poland. Guess the road to Moscow (M9) took its final toll. Watch a short memorial video at YouTube. Currently, we are looking for sponsors to help us out. Any ideas? Please contact us...

NEWSFLASH August 23, 2007

The moTiv Loco is up and running! After many hours of Photoshopping, conceptualizing, and programming we finally managed to launch the new Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation digital snake pit. Note that many items are still subject to change, fine tuning, or completion. We would like to express our gratitude to RSJF's home designer Gemma Plum for the excellent graphic designs this site is build upon and her endless patience!

Speaking about endless patience, we just completed the mixing of our forthcoming mOtiV loCo album. This would not at all have been possible without the extreme dedication of Stefan Hund from the Grooveteers Studio Eindhoven. Many thanks man! We owe you big time!

As was already announced on the preliminary web site, next to our French booking agents from Oh Lord! Productions we are happy to work with two new RSJF partners: SOZ Concerts (overall management and bookings The Netherlands) and Klassenfahrt Bookings (bookings Germany). Contact details can also be found in the interact section.

Finally, the September tour plan is shaping up. New dates added regularly...

Biographical Sketch Winter 2008-2009

Taking the music of the sixties as a starting point, the Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation (RSJF) starts where others have left. But be careful! The RSJF is NOT a retro band in any perspective. Taking the music of the sixties as a starting point, the Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation (RSJF) starts where others have left. But be careful! The RSJF is NOT a retro band in any perspective. Armed with drums, bass, guitar, piano, organs, and a wide range of horns, the RSJF has been refining their mix of Ska, Jazz, Rock-Steady, Reggae and Soul over the past eight years.

The idea of forming a Ska-Jazz band started when Arjen Bijleveld and Dimitri 'Dim' Jeltsema met each other again at a party in Rotterdam in 1999, where they spend the evening reviewing their musical past and future. In the early 90's they used to play together in 'The Obnoxious', a band famous at that time for its loud music and attitude. Young as they were, each went their own way. Arjen went into business and Dim ended up playing drums in the uptempo ska band 'Let's Quit', where he met bass player Michael 'MOK' Kragt. After a while, Michael and Dim decided to put honor to the bands name and started their own musical adventure. Finally, all came together and the foundation for the Foundation was created.

In the meantime, the RSJF has recorded an EP single and three fulllength studio albums. Their first albums are released on the Grover Records (Germany). Their second album 'Sunwalk' is recorded by Max Bolleman at his famous Studio 44 in Monster, and is also released in the United States by Megalith Records. Their last album "moTiv loCo" is released on Megalith Records in Europe and the United States. Furthermore, their music appears on various sampler CD's and LP's throughout the world.

However, the best way to experience this lubricated off-beat locomotive is live on stage. Let the intricate melodies and harmonies of the horns and the steady grooves of the rhythm section seep into your system. Rocking Ska-Jazz with a rough edge. Check out this Motiv Loco live! The RSJF hits the road pretty constantly and played on big Dutch festivals like Bevrijdingsfestivals, Metropolis, Oerol, Noorderzon and the Parade, as well as major International festivals like Summer Jam, Popkomm, Three Floors of Ska at the Knitting Factory NYC, and many other, festival or venue, varying from big to small, in e.g. The Netherlands, Germany, France, Hungary, Denmark, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, United States, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Russia and will most likely play in your neighborhood soon! Don't worry about a language barrier, let the music of the Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation do the talking. . .

Kingston Kitchen - KK809

Apart from playing their own live shows, the Rotterdam Ska-Jazz Foundation joined forces with singer, trombone player and entertainer Richie Senior Jung alias Dr. Ring-Ding, and perform together as Kingston Kitchen 809. On the menu you will find, among others, musical treasures of Prince Buster, Lord Tanamo, The Skatalites, a couple of extraordinary versions of Jazz, Pop and Rock songs from Elvis Presley, AC/DC, and Michel Legrand, as well as new and old original compositions.
